Jayamalar’s Story

CAMPAIGN PERIOD: 26 JUNE – 2 JULY 2021

Enduring much physical abuse, Jayamalar was divorced from her husband in October 2020 after 15 years of marriage. She was admitted to a hospital for brain haemorrhage in 2017. A huge debt was accumulated owing to the ex-husband’s drug habit and Jayamalar resorted to working two jobs to pay off the debts. Unfortunately, she lost both of those sources of income in 2020.

In order to keep paying for the debts and manage her expenses, Jayamalar was forced to place her three children in foster care; they are 16, 12 and 10 years old. Due to a change of environment and study pressures, the eldest son ran away from the foster home but fortunately, he was found.

The ex-husband would track where the family lived and cause trouble, forcing Jayamalar and her family to keep moving houses.

We are grateful to all our donors as with every campaign and thanks to everyone’s contribution a total of RM24,070 was raised for Jayamalar.
