CAMPAIGN PERIOD: 24-30 JULY 2021
Due to the lack of office crowd patrons during the restrictions, Hock Chew had to stop her mixed-rice stall in PJ. She was unable to get any assistance from her siblings who are also going through a rough time. One of her brothers is a cancer patient.
Three times a week Hock Chew helps a friend to pack food, earning RM30 per day. She finds it very difficult to sustain herself as she needs to undergo dialysis for her kidney failure, diagnosed six years ago. The monthly cost for the treatment is RM1,116 but thankfully she receives her medication from a government hospital for only RM1.
Hock Chew used to sublet two rooms but recently her tenants have left, and she is unable to get replacements, adding to her monthly commitments. Her TNB arrears is nearly RM750.
Hock Chew received a total of RM25,300 from generous donors over the course of the campaign.
