Basal & Rokiah’s Story

CAMPAIGN PERIOD: 9-15 APR 2022

GIFT10 has received a joint application for two households living in Sabah, Basal Binti Ugau and her daughter, Rokiah binti Kimin, Basal being the mother. A frail Basal is 86 and suffers from muscular-skeletal pains, is bedridden and unable to talk. Her son, Kalakau (56) and another daughter Ivy (50) live with her. Only Kalakau is employed with a small income of RM1,100. Rokiah’s son-in-law remits RM500 from Kota Kinabalu. These two families of 11 individuals live close by and are dependent on these funds.

The families struggle with a combined income of RM1,600 due to the lack of work opportunities and especially Basal’s medical expenses of RM500 for physiotherapy, medications, and adult diapers. It is a miracle how they survived thus far but we know this cannot be let to continue.

Basal and Rokiah received a total of RM12,800 throughout the campaign.
