Lakshmi’s Story

CAMPAIGN PERIOD: 3-9 JULY 2021

Lakshmi is a victim of domestic violence who suffered bodily injuries from her now ex-husband. She fled her home in Klang and settled in a shelter in Teluk Intan for two years. Due to these circumstances, Lakshmi’s sons have resorted to a life of crime and have been convicted. Only her daughter Santha lives with Lakshmi at the moment.

Before the pandemic, Lakshmi sold food and snacks to survive but with the current restrictions, everything has come to a halt. They have no means of income and are concerned about their food and bills, especially with the rent now three months due. Her ex-husband has stopped alimony payments and none of her sons are willing to help her financially.

Lakshmi’s case was brought to GIFT10’s attention and validated by our local contact in Teluk Intan.

Through the generosity of the community, a total of RM13,506 was raised for Lakshmi.

Update: 4 August 2021

There is no telling how the collective gestures of generosity from donors can be so powerful to impact an individual. The funds raised have empowered Lakshmi to, in her own words, “rebirth and rebuild” her life.

Lakshmi has recently started a food business that will not only generate an income for her but also contribute to the community with her culinary skills.

“I want to thank every single donor who have helped and blessed me to rebirth and rebuild my life.”
